It Takes Confidence To Be Humble

Humility is not about having a low self image or poor self esteem. Humility is about self-awareness.

Erwin McManus

It takes a lot of confidence to be humble.

That may seem like an odd statement. It may even sound like utter nonsense.

This is because we don’t understand humility.

Humility is not having a low opinion of yourself and your abilities. It is having an accurate view of yourself.

You should know your weaknesses.

You should know your strengths.

You should know your desires.

Poor self-image does no one any good. There is no virtue in cultivating a low self-esteem.

You should have slightly more confidence in your abilities than you have earned. This allows you to learn new things and to extend your comfort zone.

Perfection is not required to have positive self-esteem.

Expecting perfection will make you miserable and annoy the people who are close to you.

There is power in understanding who you are.

We often let our fear of rejection keep us from being honest with others and with ourselves.

If you can’t accept yourself as you are, you will never become the person you were meant to be.

If you are waiting until you have eliminated your flaws to accept yourself, your life will be miserable.

It may look good on the outside, but on the inside you will be a slave to perfection.

Your flaws don’t define you, but they are a part of who you are.

However, those flaws are not permanent.

Fix what you can fix. Accept what you can’t.

However, you can’t fix everything at once. Instead, enjoy the journey to becoming the person you were meant to be.

Own your mistakes.

It is tempting to explain your mistakes. But, to others, explanations sound like excuses.

Don’t put yourself down.

Be careful what you say to yourself. Don’t say anything to yourself that you wouldn’t say to a best friend.

A true friend accepts you as you are and wishes the best for you.

Be a true friend to yourself.
