You’re Golden

Gold is difficult to make.
First, you need a star.
Not just any star. It must be a big star, significantly bigger than our sun.
But even those stars alone cannot make gold.
The heaviest element they can make is iron. And that takes a very long time.
Then, through a process of explosions and collisions, spanning at least three generations of stars, some gold is produced.
Even more star explosions will slowly send gold and other heavy elements throughout the universe.
This star debris will slowly clump together and form planets and other celestial bodies.
All the gold on earth was formed in such a process.
As you can imagine, this took an astronomically long time.
This makes gold rare.
And that is partially responsible for gold’s economic value.
But there’s more!
You also get an attractive metal that doesn’t tarnish, that can be drawn into small wires and hammered into thin sheets.
As a bonus, you also get a highly efficient conductor of electricity.
But you don’t need an infomercial to know that gold is valuable, just because it is gold.
Neither do you need a marketing department to prove your worth to the world.
You are valuable just because you are you.
Sure, you can add value to the world by what you do, but your value is independent of what you contribute to society.
You don’t need to prove your value.
Ironically, the more you work to try to prove your worth, the less time and energy you have to make those contributions.
You are not valuable because you do something important.
You are able to do something important because you have value as a person.
If you measure your value by your accomplishments, you will never be able to accomplish enough to feel valuable.
And life will become a constant competition.
Instead, you can accept your worth as a gift that accompanied your birth.
When you are a natural citizen, you don’t do anything to earn citizenship.
It is a gift.
Economic value is increased by scarcity. But human value doesn’t work that way.
It is not a zero-sum game.
When you recognize the value in others, you reinforce your own value.
Don’t waste your life trying to prove your worth.
Just accept it as a gift and acknowledge the value of your fellow human citizens.
